It sounds like you started a free trial in the new app? In which case, if that’s already rolled over into charging you, you should cancel the new subscription immediately and request a refund through the App Store!
Your subscription in the old app carries over automatically, without need for any new subscription in the new app. On first launch of the new app sometimes it hasn’t been immediately registering, so some users have needed to tap the restore/reload button. It sounds like you got caught out by that one.
Anyway, once you cancel the new subscription (and request the refund from the App Store!) all will be fine. The new app will already know about your subscription in the old app at this point. You won’t lose access.
