Hi, lifetimer here. I finally have Arc 4 stable and populated.
(UI hint: I panicked when Arc 3 locked me on the subscription page, which is so perfectly formatted for a pro max screen that I only realized it could be scrolled when Matt posted on this forum that there was a “restore purchase” option on the page. Once I clicked on it, everything went smooth on both apps.)
So, simple question remaining now: how to set the backup option on both apps, considering it is off on v4?
Oh! I didn’t realise this. Yeah that’s unfortunate sizing. I suspect this has been a common problem actually, with many users not noticing the view can scroll, and then missing the Restore Purchases button. Poor bit of UI in the old app there
Hm. Personally I’d… turn it on in new app, and… actually for the old app I’d leave it turned on for now.
I don’t see any great benefit to keeping backups on in the old app, but perhaps best not to start cutting ties with the old app until the new app is fully settled in for you. Wait it out until the new app’s first full backup is complete, all timeline data looks present and correct, etc, then consider turning off backups in the old app.
Oh it’s off by default in the new app (both actually these days) because sometimes the backups can be quite large, which will consume a lot of people’s iCloud Drive allowance if they’re on free iCloud accounts.
But yeah, as long as you’ve got space for it (my own backup is about 850MB) then you’ll definitely want it on in the new app, and eventually turned off in the old app.
Thank you for your reply. I just noticed the app backup option stopped working more than a year ago (but the phone general backup including Arc was up-to-date, so phew! I think!), but now I’ll follow the advice and hopefully v4 will create a full, up-to-date backup and take it from now on. I’ll leave the screen on and v4 on the foreground at night until it’s done.
