Location icon in 1.7.3

Hi, I just updated to version 1.7.3 a few minutes ago and the location icon in the Dynamic Island has returned, at least for now. I don’t know if Apple changed the rules again or if it’s something that can be fixed on your end, but version 1.7.2 didn’t show the icon this morning. Thanks.

@plantemathieu After an app update iOS can keep showing the indicator for a while. It usually clears on its own within a couple of hours, and restarting the phone clears it sooner. 1.7.3 doesn’t change anything in how Arc records location, so it should be back to how it was on 1.7.2 once it clears. If it’s still there after a restart, let us know here.

Wow, it did disappear after you posted your message (and a reboot, just in case). Thanks for your help!

Eep. We’ve just confirmed this was a mistake on our side!

It doesn’t happen on every app launch, but an unrelated change in one of the recent releases made it likely to happen now on more launches than not. We’re going to rush out a 1.7.4 update, hopefully going live tomorrow.

The location icon has been popping in and out every 30 seconds or so since my previous post. It’s better than being permanently active, obviously. Thanks for being so quick with the fix!

@plantemathieu Arc Timeline 4 version 1.7.4 is on the App Store now, with the fix for this. Release notes are here: Arc Timeline 4 (1.7.3 and 1.7.4) release notes

It’s a phased rollout, so if the automatic update hasn’t reached you yet, update from the App Store directly: tap your profile picture, and Arc Timeline 4 should be in the list (pull down to refresh if not; if it’s under Updated Recently, you already have it). If the indicator is still showing once you’re on 1.7.4, a phone restart clears it.

My Arc4 update has Frozen and as a result unable to update or quit the update. Any ideas?

My update has Frozen so cannot update or quit the update

@JDVW01 An update that sits there like that is usually the installer waiting for Arc to stop running. Arc is unusual in that it’s always running in the background, so sometimes the update just waits. Normally you’d never swipe Arc away in the app switcher, but this is the one time it’s the right thing to do:

  1. Open the app switcher (swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause about halfway), then swipe the Arc Timeline 4 card up and off the top of the screen.
  2. Give the update a minute to finish. You can watch it in the App Store, or on Arc’s icon on your Home Screen.
  3. As soon as it’s finished, open Arc Timeline 4 again so it carries on recording.

If it’s still stuck after that, restart the phone, then open Arc again once the update has finished.
