It’s using nearly 27 GB. Is that normal? I recall it being compressed significantly in the past, so it should be taking up much less space.
Additionally, I’m currently on the TestFlight version. Should I update to the official release? Will there be no more beta releases on TestFlight in the future?
Ah let’s deal with that first. Yeah you’ll want to update to the App Store build. I’m not sending out any more TestFlight builds for the moment. No need for them at this time. So the App Store version is several builds ahead of TestFlight now.
This one’s a bit of a mystery. All testing and checking shows… no source for the number. It doesn’t match anything inside the app container or AppGroup or iCloud Drive folder. As far as we can see, the massive GB numbers aren’t inside the app at all.
So what’s using up the data? No idea. Why is it being attributed to Arc? No idea.
There is a plan to add a settings view (BIG-313), which will show what the app does contain. Database size, log files, etc. So that you can at least see what actually is there, taking up space. Though that won’t solve the mystery of why iOS thinks there’s a lot more space being used. That mystery remains unsolvable for the moment.
Oh, unrelated note: We’ve still got a fix in the todos for the imported data incorrect timezones bug you found a while back. The fix is already in for making sure it doesn’t happen again, but it’s already there in your data, so we’ve got a task for backfilling and correcting that. The issue number is BIG-342. Not forgotten! Still in the near term todos.
What you can do: do a full db export. Remove arc. Reinstall. Run the import. It will significantly free up space. Import takes 2h for me though (history back til 2014), so factor that in.
