Hi Matt — just updated to Arc Timeline 4 and I’m seeing significant data corruption after the import. It looks like the same location has been copied to every date prior to when I started recording, and notes are showing up attached to wrong dates — almost like data from one database got written into another incorrectly.
I also have both Arc Mini and Arc Timeline Recorder installed and running. Could that be contributing to the problem?
Before I try anything, should I wait? And if a clean re-import is the right move, any guidance on the safest way to do that without making things worse?
Thanks
Hi @brett_o!
First let’s figure out more detail of what you’re seeing. If you could attach some screenshots showing the same timelines in both old app and new, that would be a big help to clear up the ambiguity.
For the migration itself, it’s very unlikely anything went wrong there. The migration is strict about copying over the old database’s content exactly, no changes made. What we’re likely seeing here is … well, it’s unclear just yet. But most likely something along the lines of the new app interpreting the data in slightly different ways than the old app. But the more comparison screenshots you can provide, the better we can figure out the shape of it. If you’re not keen on sharing them in this public thread, can send them to me in a private message here on the forum. Either way is fine.
Oh for Arc Mini and Arc Recorder, those won’t have been a problem. As long as the data looks correct in the old app’s timeline views, there’s no issue there. Though Arc Mini was removed from the App Store a bunch of years ago, and not recommended to be used anymore. Deleting that app is harmless and a good idea in general - nothing gained by having it running.
No need to do any fresh installs or migrations at this point. Let’s just gather more data so we have a clearer picture of the shape of things.
