Hello, I really enjoy using Arc but find the most use out of it while travelling, not so much in my regular day-to-day.
I am considering only activating my subscription when travelling. However, what does this mean for access to my existing data and timeline when the subscription is inactive?
is there any way to access the timeline for recorded events without an active subscription?
Currently you need an active subscription to view your data in the app. You can however export your data to GPX and then view it in other apps, but that’s not really ideal.
Your use case of only recording when on trips is something I periodically play over in my mind. It’s a totally valid use case, and one that I think Arc and its subscription options should support. It is on my mind, and I do want to accommodate it!
I think perhaps the way to do it would be to offer one time purchases of 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, that sort of thing - enough to cover a planned trip. And then when a subscription or non-recurring purchase is active you can record and browse data as normal, and when not active you could browse but not record. At least, that’s the loose plan I have in mind.
But unfortunately for now that’s not in place. It’s only a wishlist item at this point. Actually this would be a good one for submitting to the Changemap site, to get votes and support for it. The more people interested in it the sooner I can prioritise working on it!
Hi @matt, thanks for the response. I’ve considered just exporting the GPX file(s) and importing it into another map-based app, however, that still wouldn’t let me view my Timeline which is the main reason why I use Arc when travelling.
Your potential solution sounds good but it’s unfortunate there’s nothing that I can do right now. I’ll submit it as a feature request and will think of some other workarounds until implemented.
