URGENT: iCloud Backup Restore Won't Work

Due to having to start from a scratch on a new phone without the option to restore from Apple’s backup, I’ve made backup to iCloud on my old device, then launched the app on a new device, the app shows that restore was complete but there’s no way to access any history - previous days are inaccessible/grayed out. Please help me do a local restore.

I was able to access the app files on my old device so have access to LocoKit.sqlite and others from the App Domain Group, how do I transfer all of this data to my new device so I can access my timeline?

I’ve tried workaround by moving all of the stuff from ~/Backups to ~/Import, UI went through importing everything but the app now keeps on freezing and becoming completely unresponsive. Also looks like random days won’t load. It’s a complete mess. I am a long time subscriber and rely on the app to track my frequent trips & memories. Does anyone have the dev’s email so I can reach out directly to get this sorted out?

The ‘Restore your data from backup?’ banner has just appeared and won’t go away despite me importing everything.

Hi @arcuser9!

Let’s work through the problem. Though don’t worry, all your data is safe. There’s no need to panic. It’s just sounding like it’s going to take some cleanup to get it all back how it was. At worst case, you might need to do another fresh install of the app and a manual import of the backup data. But either way, don’t worry, your data is safe as long as that iCloud Drive backup doesn’t get lost.

Right, so first we’ll want to figure out what the current state of things is. You did the managed restore first yeah, from the banner at the top of timeline view? And that said it completed, but you couldn’t navigate to any of it from the calendar view? Then after that you tried a manual import with the File Importer view? Does all that sound correct so far?

After a full import / restore the processing engine can often get overworked, which can explain the freezing you’re seeing. That’s not so much of a concern, but what is really important is what the data looks like in the timeline days. If you’re seeing roughly sensible visit and trip items, even if not necessarily correct activity types for the trips etc, then we could be already in a good place, and only have a bit of cleanup work to do. But if there’s bigger problems in the timeline data, we’ll need to get a bit more serious about how to deal with it.

So yeah, how’s the data looking in the timeline day views so far?
