From time to time the “Google Places” button is missing when I go to edit a place:
It’s broken like that for all places until when I kill the app.

What happens if you enter some search text? Maybe the button will appear then. Though of course it should ideally appear right from the start…
It doesn’t appear. This may be somehow related to having poor connection, because I think the first time I started seeing it while traveling and using some crap SIM or crap hotel wifi.
Ah yeah poor connection could do it. Arc doesn’t give any feedback on network failures.
There’s also a weird quirk I’ve seen since day one with Google Places, in that it sometimes doesn’t return the obvious best match for your search. Like you’re at “Fancy Cafe” and you search for “Fancy” or “Cafe” and it doesn’t find it. But then when you then try searching again the Fancy Cafe place will appear in the results! Like the first time you searched for it the server was lazy, but the second time it decided “fine, I’ll show it”.
I’ve only ever seen that problem with Google Places - something specific to their system. But it also doesn’t sound like the problem you’re having. I’m just mentioning it because it’s always struck me as weird!
That’s been a HUGE pain in the ass, like, not “sometimes” but something like >50% of the times. Again, I think affected by the network quality. I wasted so much time typing and retying and trying to guess the likely name.
Right? Like I’ve settled into a pattern of always entering a search twice now. Type the name, “Best Cafe”, wait, delete “Cafe” then retype it, wait, and now the cafe appears in the results! So weird.
For the first few weeks after migrating to using Google Places I would do that, thinking “oh I’m not putting the right name in”. Until I finally realised that no, I really am typing it right, but it just doesn’t return that result the first time! Sigh
Unfortunately for now Google Places really is the best of the bunch, even with its quirks.
