Database update - confirmed activities now unconfirmed?

I’ve been studiously updating and confirming my activities at the end of each day so there were no unconfirmed trips or visits each day. This morning a new message appeared when I opened the app (new to me anyway; I’ve never seen it before)

I waited as instructed and now see that when I view previous days, all the confirmed components need further attention.

Can you please help me understand what has happened here? Thanks.

That’s the new feature in the latest update. Though it’s not related to any database migration. In fact, the new update doesn’t include any database migrations at all! So perhaps you were a few versions out of date before upgrading to the latest.

The new feature is described in the What’s New view, which I’ll paste in here:

New timeline confirmation flow

  • The “needs confirm” flow has been redesigned and rebuilt, and now includes both “uncertain” items and “unconfirmed” items

  • Uncertain items are the same before - items where the app isn’t sure about its choice

  • Unconfirmed items are all the rest - items that the app feels confident about, but that you haven’t confirmed

  • A new “Confirm All” button allows for quick confirmation of these, locking in the of these, locking in the timeline’s state as it appears at that time

So what that means in terms of what you’re seeing, with “6 unconfirmed items” etc, is that there were items that the app didn’t ask you to confirm previously because it was confident in its choices, but that it’s now offering them to you as an extra confirmation step if you want.

This is to solve the common complaint that the app will sometimes reconsider its previous choices and change them, even though they looked correct to you at the time. If however you explicitly confirm those choices, they can’t be changed later. So this extra step allows you to lock in those choices and avoid any later automatic changes.

Thanks for the explanation.

I don’t know about the database thing either - I manually update apps and last did it a week ago so it can’t have been more than a week out of date.

A mystery then! But a harmless one, so not to worry. Those database migrations are usually just things like me adding a new database index to speed up some part of the app. Nothing significant changed and no changes to the actual data, just a bit of housekeeping to keep things running efficiently.

I was hoping you’d installed the secret database of covert CIA black sites in my phone, since it would be easier for me to just receive them, compared to than the nonsense that Tom Cruise has to go through to get that list.
