Great news on the release, sad face to see that Arc Recorder has slipped again.
Still very much alive, and it hasn’t lost any standing (BIG-156, High priority, with the demand on it counted — your voice included). The honest picture is that each recent release has ended up consumed by fixes for users actively hitting problems right now, and Recorder support keeps losing that particular race. It’s a prioritisation traffic jam, not a change of heart.
Rather than name a third release and risk a third sad face, I’ll skip the date this time. It’s near the top of the queue and it isn’t drifting down.
Not sure if it was this or the last update, but my last few subway rides were surprisingly accurate. I appreciate all the work you’ve been doing!
Also low priority but just putting out there again that it would be great to be able to toggle off the purple place badges and/or eventually see the activity maps back. One of my favorite parts of the old app was going to yearly and just looking at the lines and paths on their own. It was very inspiring
@twilldre That’s genuinely good to hear about the subway rides — and useful beyond the compliment. Underground recording got a substantial tuning pass in 1.5.0, and reports from real transit use are how we know which cities it’s landing in. NYC reading as improved goes in the bank alongside the others (some cities are proving harder — that work is ongoing, BIG-607). More improvement on this front is coming.
On the yearly activity maps: that’s tracked as BIG-355 (per-activity map views on the Activity tab), and it’s in the pool that release headliners get picked from. Your “just looking at the lines and paths on their own” framing is exactly what it’s for — and we’ve logged your ask on the ticket, which nudges it up the demand ranks. These things really do get weighed by who’s asking.
On the place badges: honestly, no plans for a toggle there for now. Map layer controls want screen space to live in, and on iPhone screens even a well-placed set of toggles clutters fast — Google Maps shows where that road leads. We’d rather hold the clean end of that trade-off on phone screens. It changes on bigger screens though, and worth saying: when the long-rumoured folding iPhone arrives, we’ll be supporting the larger screen size, and that genuinely opens the door for richer map views than a phone screen can carry.
Meanwhile, for the “just the lines” itch there’s something that exists today: Arc Timeline Reader (GitHub - gordon-williams/arc-timeline-reader: Arc Timeline Diary Reader - Browser-based viewer for Arc Timeline GPS data · GitHub), built by @zzGordon from this very forum. It reads Arc’s JSON exports and does heatmaps, activity-type filters, dark mode variants and more — likely everything you’re after and then some, and it’s in active development.

I think that’s all. Recorder might be nice someday. List view that is infinite scroll would be awesome similar to Fantastical, Readdle and other calendar apps would be the one thing I hope for, to scroll thru days like a calendar to truly get a sense of travel and activities in context. Maybe that would include secondary text like address or city, no map view as perhaps not needed in that view, and maybe some indicator of what hasn’t been confirmed. I think it’d work and be a major amazing feature. You are already aware so just a reminder of how much I’d love it and maybe it’d change the entire experience of the app.

The day getting out of sync after editing — this sounds a lot like something we’ve seen ourselves: intermittent, and hard to catch in the act, which is exactly why reports like yours help. If it happens again, a screenshot in the moment (with the header and the list both visible) plus a rough note of what you’d just been doing — which view you were editing in, and whether you’d switched days along the way — would be genuinely valuable. Swiping to another day and back usually snaps it back in line — and if it ever doesn’t, that’s worth noting too.
Show in Maps — there’s a bit more there than meets the eye: when a supported alternative is installed (currently Google Maps), the Show in Maps button becomes a menu offering the choice. And if the ask is more “remember my pick so it stops asking each time” — fair thought, noted.
Recorder — status unchanged from a few posts up in this thread: alive, near the top of the queue, and not drifting down.
The infinite-scroll list view — heard, and genuinely. I’ve captured it, Fantastical-style framing and all, and it won’t be lost when the next big features get weighed up. I won’t promise more than that — but it isn’t drifting away.
