Thank you very much. Not sure how such works for showing addresses perhaps there remain some issues. Maybe someday such could be shown in all lists such as search, day view, a future list view etc. whether by default (maybe I think so) or as option.
One thing, as I’m using search, it seems typical in iOS iPadOS macOS when one enters text in a search control, the text remains there such that it is clear one is searching, with some X or cancel control to reset; perhaps that helps as some UI/UX indicator that search is active.
One other thing from importing 3.x data. Unsure if such was in 3.x and something got messed up. If I havre some entry for walking that is at 39 months a 8 days, with (I forgot) I thought some days or periods had other plus such yet seemingly some period has only that. Maybe some error that I made or something, is there any potential fix?
Addresses in lists: understood — you’d like street addresses visible more broadly. Right now a visit’s address mainly appears in one situation: as the fallback title in the timeline list, when the visit has no assigned place and no custom title (plus the one-tap “use street address” button when setting a one-time title). Broader visibility is on the tracked list (BIG-502), and your request is logged there. Which views should carry addresses (and whether by default or as an option) will be a case-by-case design call — some views have room for an extra line, others need to stay uncluttered.
The search field: most of what you’re after exists, though part of it has a quirk worth knowing about. When you run a search, the query becomes filter pills sitting directly above the search bar — those are the “search is active” indicator, and they stay until cleared. The field itself empties because it doubles as the assistant’s conversation input (you can ask follow-up questions after a search), so it follows the message idiom rather than the classic search-field one. The clear control is the trash-can button at the top right of the screen — though there’s a rendering quirk where it sometimes doesn’t appear until you’ve tapped into the search field and closed the keyboard again. If you weren’t seeing any way to clear the search, that’s likely what you hit.
The 39-month walking entry: that one we’d need to see before saying anything useful. Could you share a screenshot, plus which screen you’re seeing it on (day view, search results, the Activity tab, somewhere else)? From your description it sounds like a single entry with a very long time span, but what to do about it depends entirely on the specifics.
That seems to work for recent unassigned places but not ones a couple of months ago. Actually the recent ones have a “Use street address” button rather than anything happening automatically. This is v1.5.1
Good news hiding in this one: the feature has actually been doing its job on those recent visits, and the button you’re seeing is the proof. “Use street address” only appears once a visit’s street address has already been looked up and stored — no address on record, no button.
What the automatic part looks like when it works (it’s deliberately quiet):
The address appears as the greyed label on the visit in the timeline list, but only when the visit has no assigned place and no custom title. If a visit has either of those, they take precedence and the address stays behind the scenes.
The visit also becomes findable by city and country in search, whether or not the label is showing.
The “Use street address” button is the separate, manual step: it copies the stored address into the visit’s title, for when you want it as the permanent title rather than the quiet fallback label.
For the months-old days: the lookups run as days are browsed, so days you haven’t opened since 1.5.1 arrived haven’t had their turn yet. Opening one queues its visits up, though Apple rate-limits these lookups, so a batch of old days fills in gradually rather than instantly.
If some recent placeless visits aren’t showing the greyed address label, the usual reason is a custom title taking precedence. But if what you’re seeing doesn’t fit that picture, describe what you’re looking at and we’ll dig deeper.
OK, can you talk me through what I need to do for an uncertain visit from a couple of months ago?
In the list of uncertain visits, it’s appearing with the suggestion of a place a couple of hundred metres away. This visit wasn’t to the suggested place, rather a stop on a nearby street. I want to add the street address as the label for this visit but don’t know how to select this. If I click the “one time visit” button then the field is blank.
Happy to walk you through it. The blank field is the normal starting point — the part you’re looking for is a “Use street address” button that appears alongside that field, but only once the visit has an address stored for it. No stored address, no button, and the field starts empty.
Viewing the visit in a list (including the uncertain visits list) is what triggers the address lookup, and it normally completes within a minute or so. So given you’ve already been in there, the button not showing means the lookup either didn’t run or didn’t succeed. Two likely reasons:
Very brief stops (under a couple of minutes) don’t get automatic address lookups — they’re usually the visits that end up absorbed into their neighbours, so the app doesn’t spend lookups on them. If your stop was a quick one, this is probably it.
Occasionally Apple’s address service just fails to produce an address for a particular spot. That one can come right on a later try (the app will re-attempt after a relaunch), but some spots never resolve.
Worth one more check-back on the visit a bit later. If the button still isn’t showing, yours is likely one of the above, and typing the street name in manually is the way to go for that one.
