Searching places using apple map

Hi, I live in a country that does not support google services, so places info on google map have not updated for a long time. Swarm by Foursquare has some info uploaded by users, but the info is not shown up in Arc app. I wonder if we could search place info using apple map.

Hi bmusgi,

Arc uses Google’s places database everywhere, because it’s the only one we’ve found with good worldwide coverage of the small places as well as the big ones. Foursquare’s data has thinned out a lot since Swarm lost most of its contributors, and in most countries Apple’s database is much more sparse than Google’s. So in general we don’t plan to add a second places database.

Countries where Google’s services aren’t available are a different situation though, mainland China being the big one. We’ve filed a ticket (BIG-832) to look into whether there’s a sensible option for that case specifically. We can’t promise anything will come of it: there are technical questions about how maps and coordinates work there that would need answers first, and it may turn out not to be workable.

One question that would help us: when you search for a place in Arc now, do you get results that are out of date, or no results at all?

I got out-of-date results. And the results are usually few hundred meters deviated from the actual location.
