I have today half a day missed off timeline so tried to import from Arc 3 as it recorded correctly now I have about 200 items with zero seconds I can’t do anything with
The item count is probably overstating the work here, which is worth knowing before writing the cleanup off.
Arc’s timeline processing consolidates fragments like these automatically, but it works best once it has something solid to build around. Each merge or edit you make by hand gives it that, and it will often clear out a stretch of neighbouring fragments on its own straight afterwards. So the first few edits tend to achieve a lot more than the last few.
Two things would help us work out how the day ended up like that:
- Are all those items on the one day, in and around the missing part?
- Open that day, tap the ⋯ button at the top right of the map, and choose Export Diagnostics. That builds a small file covering just the day you’re looking at. It contains location data, so please send it to matt@bigpaua.com rather than posting it here.
The missing half day is the part we most want to get to the bottom of.
Sent as requested hope it helps
Thanks for sending those, they were genuinely useful.
Good instinct removing the import, and it worked. In the second file your day looks whole again, morning through to evening with nothing missing in between. Does it still look right to you now?
One thing worth knowing for next time. GPX looks like a way to carry a day across from Arc 3, but it isn’t really one: it drops most of what Arc records, and it doesn’t reassemble tidily. A proper version that brings a date range over intact is on the list as BIG-399, not built yet. That’s the one to reach for if a day ever looks short again.
Your files also turned up something on our side worth fixing, filed as BIG-665.
Thanks, and the split view was a good way to show it. Two samples either end with nothing between them is exactly what an empty gap looks like.
That reads as the app having been terminated. What’s worth working out is why, and why it didn’t come back on its own during a journey that long. A diagnostics export for that day would show us, same path as last time.
Two things worth checking meanwhile.
Permissions, in Settings. Location needs to be Always, and everything on that screen should be green. If Location has slipped to While Using, a gap of exactly this shape is what you’d get.
And Arc needs to stay running in the background. If it gets swiped closed in the app switcher, iOS won’t bring it back on its own. The Current Item widget on the home screen is the quick tell there: if it’s showing something stale, it isn’t recording.
Anything you can tell us about that stretch would help too. Whether the phone restarted, whether you’d closed Arc at some point, whether anything looked off at the time.
