Database has been updating for 3 hours since installing today’s update. Advice please

Updating now ended as per below!

Hope it’s a one off (???)

@wraxall Glad it’s done — and yes, a one-off! That was a maintenance pass that comes with this update; that one’s finished and won’t repeat.

We’d like to see how much of those three hours was actual work, because the app gets suspended whenever it’s in the background, so clock time and working time can be very different. So the first question: was Arc open on screen through it, or did you leave it and come back? And if you’ve got a minute: on the map, the ⋯ button top-right → Export Diagnostics, with Sunday’s date showing (the day you updated). It builds a file and offers the share sheet — email it to [matt@bigpaua.com](mailto:matt@bigpaua.com) with a link to this thread.

Left it open for about 3 hours. Then closed it and powered off and on. It then resumed database updating for 8 hours+

@wraxall Thank you for the diagnostics — they answer it, and thank you for the day of patience it cost you. The maintenance pass started on each of those launches and only finished on one of them: the one that ran with the phone on charge, which took about five minutes. The earlier attempts were still going when you left them. That’s a lead we’re looking at on our side.

It’s done on your phone now and won’t repeat. Nothing else for you to do — and I’m glad it’s behind you.

@wraxall A correction to my last post, now that I’ve been through the full set of logs. The pass needs about five minutes of actual running time on your phone, and the attempt that finished got exactly that — five uninterrupted minutes, with the phone on charge. The rest is iOS: in the background it hands out running time in fragments, and a pass like this one only moves forward while it’s actually running, so plenty of clock time can go by with very little of the work done. Being on power makes iOS more generous with that time, which is likely why that attempt was the one to get through — the charging wasn’t making the work itself any faster.

So there’s nothing for us to chase here after all: I’d called it “a lead we’re looking at”, and it isn’t one. Yours is done and won’t run again. Thanks for sending the bundle over — that’s what settled it.

For anyone else landing here after an update: keep Arc on screen for a few minutes and it’ll finish off; having it on power helps too.
