Change to New iPhone 18 Pro max

Hello, I just received my New iPhone. I try to restore my yearly subscription, but it does not work. How should I do it? Since I will no longer need it on this iPhone 15 Pro Max

Your subscription lives with your Apple Account, not with the phone, so there’s nothing to hand over or cancel on the old one — it needs finding on the new phone.

Two things to check on the new iPhone:

  1. That it’s signed in to the same Apple Account that bought the subscription: Settings, your name at the top, then Media & Purchases. It can be a different account from the one iCloud uses. Settings → your name → Subscriptions shows what that account currently holds. If it turns out to be a different account, sign into that one, then restore again.

  2. Then tap Restore Purchases in the app the subscription was bought in. If you subscribed in the original Arc Timeline, install it on the new phone (it’s free) and tap Restore Purchases there — Arc Timeline 4 picks it up from the same device, so open its subscription screen afterwards to check it’s showing. If you subscribed in Arc Timeline 4, restore in Arc Timeline 4. If you’re not sure which, restoring in both does no harm.

If it’s still not found after that, post back a screenshot of the app’s subscription screen and we’ll take it from there.

Hello,

See attachments ,

On my older iPhone I have been using Arc Timeline 3 app, that upgraded to Arc Timeline 4. Payment valid until 1 July 2027.

Inorder to have it work on my iPhone 18 Pro Max, I had to install the app with the free trial, that will converts to paid on 26 sep 2026.

Can you refund the old payment on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, as I will only be using my new iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Thanks for your help,

Best Regards

@dirk.de.kempeneer Good news first: the yearly payment you made isn’t stranded on the old phone. That subscription covers Arc Timeline 4 on the new phone too, once the new phone finds it — so nothing is lost. Refunds are Apple’s side rather than ours in any case.

One thing does have a date on it: if the free trial isn’t cancelled, it becomes a 49,99 € charge on 26 September, for a subscription you already have. So worth doing this week, in this order:

  1. On the new iPhone, install the original Arc Timeline (Arc Timeline 3) from the App Store — it’s free — with the phone signed in to the same Apple Account as the old one. Open it and tap Restore Purchases on its subscription screen.
  2. Then open Arc Timeline 4’s plan screen on the new phone. When a second line appears under the trial reading “Renews 2 Jul 2027 · From Arc Timeline 3” — the same line your old phone shows — the subscription has carried across.
  3. Only then cancel the trial: on the new iPhone, on the screen showing “Free trial · Converts to paid on 26 Sep 2026”, tap Manage Subscription. Cancelling a trial with Apple normally leaves it running to the end of the trial period; do it a couple of days ahead rather than on the day, since the timing and the billing are Apple’s.

If that second line doesn’t appear after restoring in Arc Timeline 3, post back here with what Arc Timeline 3’s subscription screen shows, before cancelling anything.

Hello,

Thanks for your mail, but I don’t find the Arc Timeline 3 in the App Store anymore, see hereunder?

@dirk.de.kempeneer It’s there — the first suggestion in your screenshot, “arc timeline - trips & places”, is the original Arc Timeline; that’s its App Store name. Direct link: ‎Arc Timeline - Trips & Places App - App Store

Install that, signed in with the same Apple Account, and tap Restore Purchases on its subscription screen. Then check Arc Timeline 4’s plan screen for a second line reading “Renews 2 Jul 2027 · From Arc Timeline 3”. Cancel the trial only once that line is there; if it doesn’t appear, post back before cancelling.

OK this is what I see now in ARC timeline 4.
I delete the original ARC, in my subscriptions it says that it renews on July 1st.

Thanks

@dirk.de.kempeneer That’s the line that matters. “Renews 2 Jul 2027 · From Arc Timeline 3” means your yearly subscription has carried over to the new phone. Deleting the original app is fine — the subscription belongs to your Apple Account, not to the app.

The free trial is a separate thing, and that screen can’t show it. To check it: iOS Settings → your name at the top (Apple Account) → Subscriptions. Open the entry called Arc Timeline 4.

  • If it offers a Cancel button, the trial is still running — tap it.
  • If there’s no cancel option and it says it expires on 26 September, it’s already cancelled and will just end on its own.

Worth doing today — Apple only stops the charge if you cancel at least a day before. Cancelling the trial doesn’t affect your yearly subscription; you keep full access either way.

Ok, thanks for the advice
