Hi. I upgraded to the new iPhone and restored my device from an iCloud backup (I also tried device to device). That way had worked fine before, but now I can’t restore my lifetime purchase. I’m pretty sure the purchase was made with an old email address, but Apple won’t let me connect to it. The App Store also doesn’t let me download Arc 3 to make sure the subscription is still there. Is there anything I can do? Thanks.

@plantemathieu Short answer: yes. A lifetime purchase doesn’t expire, and it stays attached to the Apple Account that made it, however long it takes to get back into that account — the backup and the transfer carry your data across, not the purchase.

So the first thing is which Apple Account the new phone is using for purchases: Settings → your name at the top → Media & Purchases. That’s what Restore Purchases looks at, and it’s a separate sign-in from the one iCloud uses. If the purchase was made with the old address, that account needs to be signed in there — a hassle to switch, and no way round it — then Restore Purchases in the app the purchase was made in. If that was the original Arc Timeline, restoring needs that app installed, and Arc Timeline 4 picks the purchase up from the same phone afterwards; restoring in both does no harm if you’re not sure.

Which makes the App Store not letting you install the original Arc Timeline the thing to get unstuck first. A screenshot of exactly what it shows when you try would help — the wording tells us which wall it is.

If Apple won’t let you back into the old account, that’s account recovery with Apple: [iforgot.apple.com](http://iforgot.apple.com), or Apple Support. Purchases can’t be moved between Apple Accounts, so getting back into the one that made it is the route. And if Media & Purchases already shows the account you’d expect and Restore Purchases still finds nothing, post back with what Arc Timeline 4’s subscription screen shows and we’ll take it from there.

Oh, that makes it even weirder. Apple migrated my old account to the new one, and it shows that purchases are supposed to carry over.

When I try to re-download Arc 3, it asks me to connect with Face ID and to double-click the power button. Then it doesn’t do anything and shows the cloud icon again.

Sounds like it might be worth rebooting the phone. That’s… weird behaviour, which suggests iOS’s app install service has got itself confused somehow.

Ok, now I have an even stranger problem. I found the lifetime purchase in the Purchases tab. It says I bought it with my new address.

Ok that _should_ restore fine into old Arc Timeline then. If it doesn’t, we’ve got an even weirder mystery on our hands. But yeah, that should come through to old Arc Timeline with the Restore Purchases button in there. And then in Arc Timeline 4 the Restore Purchases button in there should carry it over.

Oh wait there’s multiple phones involved here yeah? Uh, Claude’s already got a better handle on what’s going on than me I guess. I should probably keep out of it 😅

We did it! Here’s what worked for me:

1. Log out of iCloud, stay logged out
2. Hard reboot the phone
3. Open the App Store _without logging in_
4. Click Get on the app
5. Enter login and password
6. The app should start downloading

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Everything’s fine now.

@plantemathieu Glad it’s sorted — and thanks for posting back with what worked.
